Artist Bio
Simone Christen is a Swiss painter, born in 1971, living and working in rural New Jersey since 2020. She creates abstract and non-representational art, being experimental while still working in the realm of minimalism.
Primarily reflecting emotions and atmospheres, the artist follows an intuitive approach, striving for balance without losing tension and for reduction without becoming trivial. She is interested in the impact of deep color spaces, sensitive lines and marks, and the dynamic interaction of the various players - a constant interplay of autonomy and relation to other elements and space.
Simone Christen works mainly with liquid media on paper and raw canvas, aiming for depth and luminosity through layering semitransparent, defined organic shapes. Her artworks are quiet reflections on the beauty of life and its fundamental simplicity. They are intended to provide a grounding experience and radiate a sense of calm, peace, and serenity.
