Girl Power!

March 1 – 31, 2024

Ever since it made its grand entrance on the popular culture stage thanks to the US punk band Bikini Kill, the term “Girl Power” has steadfastly held its position as a significant (political) catchphrase. “Girl Power” gained more prominence in pop culture after it was embraced by the British pop band the Spice Girls in the late 90’s, transforming it into a significant and appealing slogan. The meaning of ”Girl Power” is a self-reliant attitude among people in ambition, assertiveness, and individualism. In this art show, we pay homage to the voices and the stories woven by women across generations. It is a tribute to the transformations, the triumphs, and the unity that can arise when women unapologetically embrace their individuality and their stories. The selected 60 artists display the diversity and multicultural experiences and perspectives of women.

Piece Of Me

February 1 – 29, 2024

Self-expression and personal narratives are the topics of our February group show. Many artists’ art practice has always been centered around creating a multifaceted portrait of the human experience, which emphasizes both the similarities and differences between all of us, therefore artists are contributing to an open and inclusive dialogue about self-expression, narrative, and identity, making this group show “Piece of Me” not only a celebration of creativity but also a celebration of humanity. In this show the juried 83 artists express themselves authentically adding plenty of richness to the show.

Unveiling The Layers

January 1 – 31, 2024

Throughout art history, layers have been more than just a visual element; they embody depth, complexity, and hidden narratives waiting to be uncovered. Whether it be a physical layer (different textures or materials), an emotional layer (depicting different emotional states or experiences), a cultural or historical layer (exploring different traditions, narratives, or customs), or even a societal layer (examining different ideologies, social constructs, or political systems). “Unveiling the Layers” is a show where 50 artists peel back the layers and showcase the depth and complexity within their artworks.

The Sweet life

October 1 – 31, 2023

Ah, La Dolce Vita, Joie de Vivre, Life is Sweet!

These are the phrases we use to convey how joyful our lives are.

Artists have always enjoyed creating artworks that portray their ideal ways of living or things that bring them joy. They wish to capture the essence of enjoying life’s sweet moments from savoring a decadent dessert to falling in love. Not only do artists like to show people things that bring them joy, but many of the HMVC Gallery alumni artists like to use art as a source of happiness and enjoyment.

In our October group show ”The Sweet Life” 68 artists celebrate all the things that make their lives sweet and joyful.

Influence

September 1 – 30, 2023

In our 1-year anniversary show, we wanted to look at the things that have influenced our 102 participating artists and their art.

Probably the most common question artists get asked is: “What inspired you to make this artwork?”.

Throughout history artists have been inspired by their experiences, the environment around them, their culture, politics, and imagination. As the concept of art and creating art developed over time, artists began to be inspired by other artists and their art styles. Each artist has their own individual perspective, style, and creative vision resulting in art that is deeply personal to them.

So we can conclude that an artist’s influence is as subjective as art itself.

Home

June 1 – 30, 2023

In old English, the word ”home” refers to a town or a place where many souls gather.

The modern definition of home states that home is “the abiding place of the affections” which perfectly sums up how most people today regard their homes.
When we are born, our first impression of home is the place our parents made for us.

As we grow and leave that home, we start to build our own ideas of what home is. The majority of us end up building a home that is very different from the one we started our life journey in, whether it be a new apartment, house, town, or community.

Artists have a long history of documenting the places they call home. Claude Monet painted the gardens at his Giverny home, Helene Schjerfbeck painted family members and events that took place in her home, and Andy Warhol photographed his studio ”the factory” in New York City. So we can conclude that the concept of home is universal, in the end, we end up creating a home that is unique to us.

In our June online group art show the 46 selected artworks depict the concept of homes.

Abstract Is Abstract

May 1 – 31, 2023

Boldness and experimentation with color are used to describe Abstract art as it is free from the rules of traditional form-focused art practices. Abstract art’s key elements are the symbolic function of color, the rhythm of forms, and their independence from a subject, resulting in the artist having complete autonomy to express their emotions and showcase their artistic abilities without restrictions. With these words, we’d like to give you this Abstract group show featuring the following 83 artists.
