Amelia Melnick went to SUNY Purchase where she studied Graphic design. She now works to create packaging for pharmaceutical companies. Amelia was born in Huntington, NY and still lives there today.
In 2018 her oldest child suggested that she start drawing again. College was a long time past, but she picked up a pen and pencil and has been drawing almost every day since. Whether a small sketch of her coffee cup or a large illustration for an online challenge, she has remained dedicated to the practice that brings her so much joy.
I take my art with me. Thankfully, watercolor and pen and ink are incredibly travel-friendly forms of art to create. My process is about taking what I see as my subject anywhere I am and creating art from that. I have always been drawn to Deco and Nouveau styles, and I distinctly remember—especially growing up in NY—how much the Art Deco architecture of the Chrysler building always influenced me. As a child, I saw the Erte exhibit in Manhattan, and I was hooked!
