Jude Schlotzhauer has been a working studio artist for 50 years. She has a BFA with a concentration in painting from American University and an MFA with a concentration in glass working from Va. Commonwealth Univ. She has taught kiln glass processes (fusing, slumping, and casting) at universities and art centers throughout the U.S. and in Mexico and Malaysia. Her work is in permanent collections of The Science Museum of VA., Takoma Art Museum, RVA Children's Museum, Medical College of Va., V.C.U., Capital One, and many other corporate and private collections as well as public art installations.
My medium is kiln-formed glass which involves melting glass in kilns to create 2D and 3D works of art. With a background in painting, I use glass in similar ways that I used to paint. I am attracted to glass for its versatility, vibrant color, and ability to transmit, reflect, and project light.
