Artist Bio
My professional background is varied and is integral to making my art. My parents wanted me to study medicine, but I was interested in art as an undergraduate at Columbia College. As a compromise, I studied architecture at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture and Planning but also took art classes at Columbia and the School of Visual Arts. Upon graduation, I worked as an architect at a NYC office, but when I had the opportunity to go to Berlin in 1991, I decided to leave. After a year there, I got a job as an architect and stayed. I started to paint seriously, absorbing all the tumult after the fall of the Wall. During four years there, I developed my art practice.
I now live in NYC and have been fortunate to exhibit my works at various galleries here and around the world. I was honored with a grant from the Pollock Krasner Foundation in 2006 and subsequent residencies at The Corporation at Yaddo and the artist retreat at Macdowell.
