Putting into practice the inventive openness and lack of inhibition that I observed in my students I recently adopted the mantra, "Don't think, just paint!" permitting my heart and my psyche to direct my hand and eye, yielding an unfiltered direct emotional response to ideas in moods ranging from lighthearted and playful to strong and bold. I am, primarily an abstract painter, although a friend once described me as "six artists rolled into one" as I transcribe the many subjects and ideas that fascinate me onto canvas and paper. My recent work, inspired by the unobstructed sky views from my apartment balcony and images from the Hubble and Webb telescopes has been focused on natural phenomena. Using traditional and non-traditional tools for varied methods of paint application, I have created a color-driven body of work. One juror/critic commented that this body of work asks the viewer to contemplate: "Am I seeing something that could be described as aesthetic violence? Or do these works portray a breakthrough into some imagined space beyond the surface of the canvas?" I invite the viewer to embark on a visual journey with me while getting lost in color driven moods of the moment.
