Phoebe M. Barron

Phoebe M. Barron, a self-taught photographer, has been taking photos since childhood. Her father gave her an SLR camera with interchangeable lenses when she was 16 years old. First, she took candid shots of family and friends, and then when she traveled across the US.

New York City is her ‘go-to’ place to see different types of architecture. Contemporary architecture piqued her interest - especially the abstract nature of lines, angles, and reflections seen in these buildings.

When she purchased her first house, her goal was to replace her lawn with flowering perennials. She discovered that she had inherited the same “gardener” gene as her siblings, mother, and maternal grandmother. In examining her flowers, she saw minute details not ordinarily seen by the casual observer. This led her to experiment with macro- to micro-photography of flowers.

Her exhibits have been seen at City-Wide Open Studios in New Haven, public libraries, private galleries, and salons in the Greater New Haven area.

Phoebe’s photographs have been published in newspapers, magazines, and school catalogs - - New Haven Arts Council Bulletin; San Francisco Bay Guardian; San Francisco East Bay Weekly Express; Hartford Courant; Neighborhood Music School Catalogue; and The Yale Alumni Magazine.

Phoebe teaches violin, viola, and viola da gamba at the largest community music school in Connecticut and will celebrate her 40th year of teaching in 2023.
