Artist Bio

Barbara Clements (married name Barber) is an oil painter who paints under her maiden name Clements and grew up on Long Island, NY, later moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and 'fell in love' with the Western landscape and is inspired to paint the Arizona natural landscape.

She paints in oils on both canvas and panel using meticulous brush strokes and natural colors. Her subject matter is usually nature, whether it is a landscape or a bird and flower, painting using traditional materials.

She feels most people do agree when they see something beautiful it is beautiful and attempts to show what she finds beauty in her own art by a diligent effort to paint as well as she can to bring that out. Her brush strokes are painstakingly executed. Colors of nature rendered as closely as nature has created, and compositions were chosen carefully to present a pleasing effect. The subject matter has been chosen to elevate one's thoughts.

It takes a long time to finish her paintings. Most of her paintings take over a month of long days at the easel consisting of 8 or more hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week. Larger paintings as long as 3 months on this schedule. It is what it takes to create and what she is trying to achieve.

She considers herself an aesthetic.
.
Other works include portraits, still life, animals, birds, flowers, and seascapes. An occasional dab at fantasy as her childhood evokes from play.

Her work has often been featured in American Art Collector magazine and the Fountain Hills Times.

She is a member of the International Guild of Realism, The National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, and has shown in their juried shows. Currently, locally she is showing in 9theGallery, The Shemer Art Center, Ground Floor Artists, and The Herberger Art Gallery.
